It was a rather hot day in the Boulderclan camp. The harsh New-leaf sun sat in the middle of the sky and it felt as though it was doing this so that there would be no creature that was able to escape it's cruel heat. On the ground below near the creek sat a small tabby cat. His fur was a rich brown color and it had to it a certain healthy youthful coloration to it quite contrary to the usually duller color of an adult. It gave the sense that this tom was not yet a fully grown cat and yet was older than a mere kit as it had lost it's fluff and had smoothed out into a proper pelt with the exception of the occasional bit of kit fluff that could be seen on his furry body.
The tom panted either from exhaust or simply from over heating. He laid next to the creek and looked down into the clear blue water. He cringed as he noticed that he had a couple of cuts on his face, he had attempted to capture a water dwelling snake but to no avail. He had bent down near the surface of the water expecting to grab the snake's head but he struck a little too late and grabbed it by the tail. The snake then swung backwards and bit him right underneath his left eye. In a panic the tom had dropped the snake and began to scream for help for fear that he might have venom in his bloodstream.
After some time he realized that it was pointless to scream for help as he was waisting too much energy. He at first hadn't realized that he could simply run back to Boulderclan's camp and have the medicine cat treat his wound but now that he finally knew, he was too weak to run back to camp. His disarray and panic took a large amount of energy and left the youngster tired and thirsty. Opening his dry throat the young cat quietly lapped at the water his small tongue flashing in and out of the water wildly. When he had decided that he had had enough he picked his head up and shook his head to be sure that his pelt was dry.

Nightmist had managed to get some alone time for the day; the clan was still busy with it's patrols. The prey were returning, and the borders seemed fine; but BoulderClan was still recovering from the low prey at Leaf-bare. The clan planned to use this time to hunt and restore their strength. So far, it worked out fairly well, except now, between hunting, practicing, and border patrols, Nightmist seemed to have no free time of her own. It was lucky today, however, that she managed to finally be free for once.
It wasn't as if she wanted to be free; but she needed to relax a bit; after all, too much work it not good. So, Nightmist planned to spend her time relaxing near Shallow Creek; it had water, an open area, and prey if she ever got hungry. Plus, she'd catch some for the clan on the way back as well.
Once she got there, however, her serene attitude almost immediately disappeared as she saw Barkpaw, a small clan apprentice yowling for help before dipping his head in the water. Seeing him shake his head, almost tiredly, the small black she-cat raced towards the young tom. "Barkpaw! What's wrong? Why were you yowling earlier?
|
" the deputy prompted, as she rushed over to the apprentice. Once she got there however, she let out a small yelp of surprise at a cut on the apprentice's face. It didn't look like any normal cut caused from another cat either. Walking closer to the tom, her misty ice-blue eyes gentle as she neared, Nightmist inspected the wound. Nudging the tom gently, Nightmist spoke softly, as if speaking any louder would shatter him, " "Where did you get that cut, Barkpaw?" Nudging the apprentice to stand, Nightmist continued on, inspecting the wound for a while, unsure of what happened. " Come on, let's get you back to camp. Have Brightberry take a look at it, ok?" The small deputy looked up at the sky, praying silently to StarClan as she nudged the apprentice gently once more. ' StarClan, please don't let this be bad'. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Barkpaw's eyes flashed upwards to see the face of his clan's deputy. The brown tom fell silent once more as the older cat looked at his snake bite. It felt as though his wound were pulsating, literally throbbing along with the steady beat of his heart. The very moment he thought of his heart it seemed as though he could hear it beating away rigorously in his chest, the sound growing louder and louder until he wondered if Nightmist could hear it too. Perhaps it had been a poisonous snake that had bit him and the venom was slowly making it's way through his body.
It could have also just as easily have been his own fear. Barkpaw had an over active imagination at times, it seemed to come along side his love of knowledge. However, if Barkpaw didn't know what kind of snake had bitten him and if it was poisonous or not he often assumed the worst. Barkpaw assumed that Nightmist was walking with him to ensure that nothing bad happened to the apprentice on his way back to camp. The tom looked at her and gave a polite smile, it was his own way of thanking her for helping him back to camp.
(I apologize my muse is low right now. I will get it up though.)

Nightmist looked at the young apprentice; standing by him should he suddenly get weak. Upon her inspection, she knew it hadn't come from a cat; she figured the tom was trying to hunt when the prey attacked back. As she kept pace with Barkpaw, Nightmist scented fear radiating off the apprentice. Almost immediately she stopped in front of him, looking at him through misty, concerned eyes.
"Is it bothering you, Barkpaw?" she asked, looking at the wound closely. She hadn't wanted to stop, for fear that it was worse than Barkpaw let her know. Sniffing at the wound, Nightmist narrowed her eyes; looking at Barkpaw with stern, yet gentle eyes, Nightmist gently nudged the apprentice once more.
"Come on Barkpaw; it's best if we let Brightberry see to this right away." Nightmist continued on, moving in pace with the young tom. As they continued, she looked over at Barkpaw, before turning forward once more,
"So, how is your training going? Well, I hope."
[OOC: No problem; my own muse has been up and down too.]
