LARKPAW The compact form of an apprentice slunk into the vast meadow of bluebells, the bright little flowers covering up her dark brown paws. Larkpaw’s gaze slid around the giant field of blue; this was her first New-Leaf, and she wasn’t surprised to find that the thawing of the brooks seemed to have brought about the blooming of these flowers as well. The small plants felt springy under her paws, and she found herself stepping much higher than her normal gait in response to the new texture. They were so strange, these new flowers she was surrounded by! Her tail lashed back and forth as she bent her nose down to inspect the bluebells more thoroughly, jaws parting the scent the flowers. After she had familiarized herself with the vibrant bloom, Larkpaw twisted her head over her shoulder to gauge her mentor’s reaction to the field.
”I’ve never seen such flowers before, Littlewhisker. Weren’t they here in Leafbare?”
The she-cat pushed her paws into the flowers, batting at one or two before turning fully to face her mentor. She knew that this place was normally used to train in combat, but the ground had been frozen solid in her first moon of training. Hard, icy soil did not make for tumbling around and smashing into each other. Perhaps now that the earth had seemed to thaw out and render itself fertile enough for the delicate bluebells to rear their heads, it would be time for her first real lesson in battle. Scuffling around camp with her fellow apprentices hadn’t been quite the education she needed to protect her Clan one day; having a bit of one on one training with her mentor in a field of flowers seemed like it could be quite beneficial. Larkpaw dug her claws into the soft soil, her eyes wide in eagerness and excitement.
The apprentice had a pretty good idea of what her mentor was going to face her with, and her assumption of a sparring match seemed pretty fun. Maybe combat would turn out to be Larkpaw’s strong suit! By the way her tail was flickering back and forth in anticipation, it just might turn out to be.

Oh, how he wished she was still around, telling him to stand up for himself. Even if he wasn't ever going to heed her advice, it would have been nice to hear her raspy, frustrated voice again. But now was not the time to think of long-gone apprentices. Not when he had one of his own to take care of.
Larkpaw was ages ahead of him, it seemed. Young and full of energy..not that he was all that old himself, but still..she had that youthful exuberance that made the young move faster. slowly, the small white tom padded after her, smiling softly. She was so enthused by plant life, of all things. He had to admit, though, they were rather nice to look at and she hadn't really seen the blooms before. He paused a small distance behind the brown tabby, just watching. He allowed himself to be caught up in memories and startled slightly when she spoke.
”I’ve never seen such flowers before, Littlewhisker. Weren’t they here in Leafbare?”
Not really, no. then again, there's wasn't much growing in Leafbare in the first place... He pushed a bluebell back with one round, snow-colored paw. They're something else, aren't they?
He had brought her here, yes, for a reason. this field, despite it's lazy atmosphere and innocent beauty, was a place to stretch out and train. Battle training, mostly..though a nice warm-up run would be lovely. A race..yes..Larkpaw would like that. Just to stretch muscles out. A perfect plan, indeed. She turned to face him, and he could see her claws gripping the ground. Ah, not yet. Though you're eager, good. Why don't we race a little bit? Warm up before you go about trying to knock me down, eh? How about from where we're standing..to where that unusually tall stalk is? He gestured with a pale pink nose in the direction of the intended goal. Winner gets the fattest peice of prey on the pile, regardless on whether you can actually bowl me over or not?
