HISTORY:
It was a healthy pregnancy, not too long and not too short, and it produced two kittens. The firstborn was a healthy young she-cat eager to suckle, and the second a stillborn male. It was saddening, but it wasn’t a great surprise. Lightpelt wasn’t a young cat, and this was her first litter; it was fortunate she bore one completely healthy kit. As lazy as he was in his position as a warrior, Browntail was an excellent father, and he helped his mate care for the kit every step along the way. Lark-kit often heard the other queens snap at the tom joking, telling him to stop smothering the poor thing. The parent’s love was fortunate, though, and their kit grew quickly and well under the excellent conditions.
Lark-kit was a merry little kit right from the beginning, always interested in the older kit’s games and the queens’ chatter. She bounced from litter to litter, playing with every other kit she could before her mother and father dragged her back to her own nest. She proved herself a happy and healthy cat from the beginning, and was awarded freedom to roam the camp as Lightpelt and Browntail saw fit. By the time she was four moons old, she would leave the nursery on her own and spend much of the day outside, watching apprentices go about their chores and the patrols come and go. She always returned to her mother’s nest before the sunlight disappeared for a nice, long, nightly quiz on the warrior code. Her father let her watch as he trained his own apprentice, and her mother drilled the values of being a warrior into her head.
It was a proud day for both Lark-kit and her parents when BrookClan’s leader called her up in front of every cat in the Clan and gave the she-cat her second name. She was 6 moons old, and had reached an age of new independence. Of course, she would still answer to the warriors and take instruction from her mentor, but she wouldn’t be returning to her mother every night for a washing and a drilling. She had new freedom, but with it came responsibility. Her parents had raised her to be a hardworking cat, one that will uphold the warrior code and make her Clan proud, and by StarClan she would do right by the cats that had given her life. So Larkpaw continues to train devotedly, motivated by her fortunate upbringing and urge to shine.[/ul]
