<---- WHITESTAR
male, sixty moons
RANK: Leader[/b] Longflower - a white she-cat with a long and lithe build. She was very doting. [deceased]
LIVES LEFT: Nine
ALLIANCE: HillClan
APPEARANCE: Large white tom with copper-colored eyes.
PERSONALITY:
One of Whitestar's most positive attributes is that he can be very courageous when under pressure. It's one of his redeeming qualities, really, and it's what ultimately makes him a decent leader. He's a pretty fair and respectable cat in the late summer of his life. Knowing when he can and can't take up a responsibility, he sticks to his word as best he can (although he's been known to find loopholes if stuck between a rock and a hard place), but he never makes a decision in the affirmative if he's not sure he can carry it out. Considerably honest and open, there's not much that he hides or could ever possibly keep clandestine; he's terrible at forging lies, so in consequence he resorts to being the kind of cat that never fibs. If he has nothing to say or can't formulate an alibi for mistakes that he really doesn't want to admit to, he'll remain silent. It's a dead give away, really. Bravery does not fall short of Whitestar. He relies a little too much on brawn, and he'll often act before he thinks. That's not to mean that he doesn't appreciate discussion, but sometimes it'll all just go over his head. Being the docile cat that he is, though, he's easily persuaded or pushed about.
Not to say that he's totally submissive, for he also has his major shortcomings. While this has improved with age, Whitestar is incredibly immature and, well, stupid. His IQ matches that of a squirrel suffering from a brain relapse, and that statement isn't all that much of an exaggeration. He has poor decision making, and his rhetoric skills are lacking severely. The leader isn't wary of speaking up, though, despite how he sounds utterly simplistic in mindset whenever he shares his thoughts on a subject. Rude and blunt, he frequently says things that really just aren't suitable sometimes. It's not below him to insult a cat who gets on his nerves, nor is it rare for him to totally disregard a cat's status or position and make a remark that could get him into really hot water. His idiocy has earned him a somewhat negative reputation, and he often fears that other leaders do not take him seriously. He also is slightly paranoid that his own Clan disrespects him (even though it would be wonderful karma), so he'll often go on "good will crusades" around camp or even to other Clans in some cases. Whitestar's common sense is incredibly dull. He practically has none. This makes him the butt of many a joke.
He may not be bright or amiable, but he loves his Clan and freedom. He detests the idea of total control and despotic leadership, so in turn he manages his subordinates rather loosely. Even though dumb and a little temperamental, he likes to listen to the opinions of other cats so long as they aren't in total anarchy against his own. The only thing he hates to hear is downright rebellion, and he will not tolerate it. Sadly though (but possibly fortunate for others), he's so slow that cats could probably get away with throwing a few subtle insults at him to then dance away unscathed. Nonetheless, he's passionately devoted to his Clan. But his willpower is lacking; he'll often hold back and procrastinate to avoid conflict, whether it be inside his own borders or outside the hills in other territories. His movements are lackadaisical, and one could almost say that he is a perfunctory leader. He merely takes his time, though, despite being a very action-based being. Whitestar relies heavily on the guidance of his deputy and medicine cat, putting weight on their advice and more often than not following it. Although, to be honest, there have been numerous occassions in his history where he's completely ignored educated suggestions and tossed precautions to the wind. Like some magic monster, he's managed to not lead the Clan into a pit of snakes and spikes. Yet. In this way he's a little unpredictable, but there are still a myriad of cats who claim to have the white-pelted leader's behavior down to a science.
Whitestar has little to no originality. He likes to copy everything fun or interesting that he sees, and a lot of the policies that he's pressing on his Clan are stolen and ripped from practices witnessed during his crusades to other Clans. He does it shamelessly and unmercifully to the point that it's so ridiculous and obvious that it's hysterical. What he lacks in this area, though, he makes up for with a voraciousness unsurpassed by any cat before him. He loves to eat, and he does so constantly. He doesn't dine out of place, of course, for that would be against the warrior code, but he can eat approximately up to two or three mice in a single meal and still be hungry. Anyone who wishes to get on his good side would give him food or catch him extra prey, it's just that simple.
REASON FOR NAME:
His original warrior name is Whitehare. He was given the prefix at birth due to his snow-white pelt. The "hare" suffix came later when his stocky body and long legs reminded the leader of a large rabbit.
FAMILY:
Father: Silverdash - an agile yet dull-witted tom with gray and white fur. [deceased]
Sister: Ivorywing - a white she-cat with a long and delicate-looking build. She has a blue eye and a gold eye. Her personality is less than delightful.[/ul]
HISTORY:
Born on a warm and humid newleaf day, Whitekit and his sister were immediately fawned over. They looked practically identical to their pure white mother, her long and feminine body curled slightly to cup the small bodies of her offspring. Their father was sitting proudly behind the tired yet extremely pleased queen, his eyes blazing with warmth and happiness whenever a fellow clanmate entered the den to give his congratulations. Their relatives appeared thoroughly infatuated, and the leader himself even spoke his approval and best blessings, sniffing the damp bodies of Whitekit and Ivorykit before leaving with purpose. The two kits' names were bestowed upon them shortly after, the ditzy couple so caught up in the parade of warriors that they forgot to create titles. They were both given names that represented their fur color. The fully blossomed family had then slept deeply, the two kits feeding quietly yet hungrily.
In the following moon since Whitekit's birth, he was spoiled terribly by his father and mother. Despite this priviledge, ever since he could walk and talk he was bullied incessantly. Larger kits in the nursery who were boasting a mean streak often roughed him up and called him names. They were always scolded for their behavior, but they never seemed to completely stop their tormenting. Whitekit's sister, Ivorykit, tried to defend him whenever she could, but she was always overpowered or rendered mute by their obnoxiousness. This torture generated a certain meanness in Whitekit himself, and his emotions broiled and fermented inside him for many moons as the bullying never stopped. Stuck in the nursery, though, he had no one to release his pent up emotions on. His sister was a comfort; she determinedly remained by his side, and the two developed a very close relationship. They were the closest brother and sister many a queen had ever seen.
All the cruelty resulted in Whitekit also getting uncharacteristically creative. Or, well, his sister getting imaginative, for he couldn't come up with a good idea to save his life (even in his kithood, yes). He became best pals with an apprentice named Sootpaw. His amber-green eyes were round and owl-like, and his black fur was thick and fluffy, making him resemble the form of a bear or lion. This tipped the two siblings off, and through the persuasion of Ivorykit, Whitekit befriended the gullible yet friendly tom. Using him, the ploy managed to dismay and temporarily stop the teasing whenever the black cat was around. Despite the friendship being one of pure convenience at first, the two actually became actual best friends. Sootpaw would frequently visit him and his sister in the nursery, tussling around with them and telling them stories about training outside of camp walls.
Having a trusty and fun-loving friend didn't vanquish his enmity, though. Whitekit still had a lot of anger he needed to get out of his system; he loathed his bullies for being so awful, and he also harbored a disdain for his parents for never fully stopping them. The young kit started to get nasty. He would snap at his mother or talk back to other warriors whenever they visited. These actions were not tolerable, though, and his father quickly put and end to it. It wound up in Whitekit nurturing a kind of respect and docility toward those of higher rank, but the kit still looked around like a hawk for someone he could vent his frustrations upon. He had his dim-wittedness from birth, but the abuse he received from his enemies at such a young age ruined his natural altruism and friendliness. The two things combined together produced a foul concoction of immaturity, rudeness, and angst.
He finally found his target after his apprenticeship ceremony. Named Whitepaw along with his sister, her named being changed to Ivorypaw, the two were lauded by their close friend Sootpaw (then a senior apprentice close to warriorhood) and their parents. Whitepaw was given an equally stupid mentor, one who didn't know a rat from a lame crow. The two got along, though, so he didn't attack her, but as soon as the unwitting warrior gave the apprentice his first directive, the tom stumbled upon a she-cat that would forever alter his life. Whitepaw was sent to the elders' den to clear off old bedding and replace it with fresh moss. He had entered the den and meowed a hello to the inhabitants without really looking, but when he got the ornery and snappy reply of, "'Bout time, you stupid apprentice," he was influenced to look at whom he was dealing with. A black and white she-cat with gross-looking fur and glazed-over eyes was glaring at him. She had snorted and then lashed her stumpy tail. "Do a good job, idiot. Or I'll get your blasted mentor to beat you." The words resonated with Whitepaw, and it was that moment that he had decided.
For the rest of his apprenticeship, whenever he had to take bedding, fresh kill, news, or herb-laden moss to the elders' den, he bullied Blackdapple. The black and white she-cat was all he had ever wanted in a victim. She was pretty unliked in the Clan, her infamous history of slacking off and being generally rude and bossy (she had even chased her sister out of the Clan, he had learned from an old warrior) giving her no protection of onlooking eyes. At first, the bullying was fairly innocent and only simply annoying, involving the flinging of insults and hissing. It was an immediate game to Whitepaw, and it allowed him to release all the feelings of hurt he'd had built up inside him for so long. Being an immature and obnoxious brat in turn, he was too stupid to realize that he was only doing the pathetic crap that his bullies had done to him in his kithood. This habit of terrorizing Blackdapple in between patrols and training with his mentor was noticed by his keen sister, Ivorypaw, and close friend (recently named Sootmark). It utterly disgusted her, and she berated him all the time. Her opinion mattered to Whitepaw, of course, so he did listen to her and cut down on his cruelty. But, her lack of consistency and Sootmark's I-don't-really-care-do-what-you-want-to-do-bro attitude ended up in him picking it back up again.
It all only got worse after his warrior's ceremony. He and Ivorypaw's names were changed to Whitehare and Ivorywing, and they were released of their apprenticeship duties and obligations. Several days later, he literally attacked Blackdapple, surprising her when she was making dirt and causing her to soil herself. The incident was the final straw in Ivorywing's book. While the youthful warrior only received a light scolding from a disinterested leader, the white she-cat took the time to call her brother out on all his crap. She no longer tolerated his presence, and their formerly close relationship was severed. Whitehare's only remaining friend was Sootmark. The loss of his friendship with his sister made him pause, and in a bout of confusion and slight depression, he left Blackdapple permanently alone.
In this state of melancholy, the tom was granted an apprentice during a large influx of litters. The little 'paw was extremely overeager, but his excitement didn't infect Whitehare like it should have. Ivorywing had become a mentor as well; he tried to go on patrols and hunting missions with her, but she always managed to wiggle her way out of being in the same group as him. The whole ordeal hurt, and it resulted in the apprentice unfairly having a very slow and boring beginning to his training. Sootmark's good-naturedness and love for his friend Whitehare inevitably helped the tom out of his rut, though, and things started to get slightly more interesting. Slightly. Being an uncreative cat, he never managed to make outings into the territory fun. Also, being relatively stupid, he always had his apprentice either showing him up with stuff he'd learned from his friends or with information he'd gotten from other mentors. The only thing Whitehare legitmately helped him with was fighting (for he was pretty decent at it). When it came to hunting, though, he always joined with double-teamers, completely ruining everything by butting in and looking like a huge fool. His epic failure made for many laughs.
When his apprentice graduated eventually, Whitehare still stayed best friends with Sootmark. The two were almost inseparable, although the black-furred tom had started flirting with Ivorywing. Despite this, he found his friend to be the epitome of coolness and suavity. He copied everything he did. The long-haired tom had begun acting upon ambitions that he had previously shared with Whitehare, attempting to get in the deputy's favor as the health of the leader with the single remaining life depleted. Whitehare, although not as openly and vigorously, did the same, conversing with the deputy over important things or bringing in as much (stolen) game as he could possible. As border skirmishes were beginning to worsen between HillClan and another rival Clan, the two friends tried their best to be as valiant as possible. In an odd and quirky twist of fate, though, during a confrontation between the two Clans, Sootmark managed to change the tide using a flash of genius, but instead of him getting the glory, it was mistakenly given to Whitehare. He accidentally stole his thunder. The circumstance led to the tom being crowned as deputy over Sootmark after their leader died and the current deputy then moved up in rank.
Surprisingly, although it was mostly because he was so laid-back and courteous, Sootmark felt nothing but gladness for his friend's success. The whole mess made Whitehare guilty, but he let it go when his friend's quick acceptance and support raised him to the challenge. During the sudden fear and euphoria of a sudden and unexpected moving of positions, Ivorywing approached him for the first time in many a moon. she made it incredibly clear that the only reason she was speaking to him again was because, "An idiot like you shouldn't even be in charge of dung." Oddly, what should have been taken as an insult only translated into progress to Whitehare. He and his sister established a new relationship, but the two were still bitter towards each other (Ivorywing holding a grudge and Whitehare simply perturbed by how she always meddled in his affairs as deputy). The tom willingly asked for and got a lot of guidance from his sister and Sootmark. Despite their help, he royally screwed a lot of things up. His leader always got angry at him for his incompetancy, but he kept him around for his devotion and popularity with others (yeah, apparently cats liked him). Whitehare often embarrassed himself and HillClan. Thus there was much laughter. Again. But mostly from the other Clans.
When his leader stepped down to join the elders in the elders' den, Whitehare became Whitestar. Much to the chagrin of his sister, though. The night after his trip to get his nine lives, the she-cat (with the assistance of Sootmark) physically pushed him into the dirtplace to yell at him and literally pummel him, threatening death by enraged Ivorywing if he killed everybody via his "overwhelming" stupidity. This somehow magically made the immature leader straighten up a bit more. He took his new job seriously immediately. He decided (poorly, as always) to institute his soon-to-be-famous "good will crusades" as soon as possible. The leader held a meeting with his Clan, telling them the thick of it front and center. He utterly failed that, making himself a laughable little thing. Then he paraded around camp trying to look a concerned bugger, but he failed that too. He then took it that humiliating step farther by going on a mission to other Clans. This made things memorable.
In the end, after several moons of being a leader, he eventually resolved himself to apologize to Blackdapple. It took him forever to find her because for some reason she had always managed to wander off whenever he found time to seek her out. But he spoke to her eventually. It made cats laugh, and it made them cry. Mostly no one had a clue as to what the big deal was, but it was a pivotal moment in Whitestar's life. Even though the she-cat didn't accept his apology and spat in his face, he felt better that his wrongs had in some way been righted by his amendment. It transitioned him fully into his new role, and now he's just as pretty as can be, leading HillClan like a trooper.
