TALONSTRIKE
Thanks to the Newleaf weather, his hunt was going fairly well--by sunhigh he'd already caught enough to feed quite a few cats. By now he was distracted enough from the thoughts that had troubled him recently that he was only thinking of feeding the clan--at least until he found himself at the Fallen Oak. He paused to stare at it for a moment, and his heart thudded sickly in his chest.
He hadn't talked to his sons since his tiff with Wolfpaw.
Talonstrike had been avoiding both Wolfpaw and Hawkpaw and as much as he wanted to believe they would grow up safe and entirely fine without his guidance, he missed them. He loved his sons and was proud to see that they were so resilient, but--he had to keep his distance, didn't he? He took the time to speak to their mentors at night, after patrols, to check on on how they were doing and every time they told him of the things that they accomplished he felt warm with pride.
He never congratulated them. He just watched from a distance.
Lately, he'd started to slip out of camp early in the morning to do solo hunting patrols so that he wouldn't have to worry about bumping into them and getting into another stupid, pointless fight. He was starting to become quite pessimistic about his relationship with the two and he didn't like that--he figured it would be best to just keep his distance.
After a moment, he sighed. He felt like all the energy and enthusiasm he had before was just gone. He padded to where the top of the Fallen Oak lay on the ground, jumped on top, and then walked so that he was a few good tail-lengths above the ground, and sat with his tail curled around his paws. He just stared out at the green growth the Newleaf brought and was silent.
